Losing Streak Continues (Losses vs Blues and Blackhawks)

Well, it hasn't exactly been fun. With injuries to Sakic, Stastny, Clark, Cumiskey, McCormick, and at times, Svatos and Smyth, the Avs have been depleted at all times this season. They need to snap out of it.

Soon.

With a 4-1 loss to St. Louis and a 2-1 defeat against Chicago, the Avs are now in 9th place in the West and haven't been able to buy a goal.

In St. Louis, the Avs looked like chickens with their heads cut off in the defensive zone and despite putting the puck on net 40 times, could only manage to get one by Manny Legace.

Jose Theodore was pulled after allowing four goals on seven shots, including a shorthanded one in the second.

The Avs made it a two-goal game early in the third thanks to a Ben Guite goal, but failed to do anything else up until the Blues hit the empty net.

Three Stars of the Game
1. Peter Budaj (16 saves on 16 shots in relief for Jose)
2. N/A
3. N/A

That should tell you all you need to know.

The 2-1 loss at Chicago appears to be much closer than it was. The Avs didn't score until there were under 3 minutes to go and didn't manage a shot in the last 30 seconds, despite being up on a 6-on-4 powerplay. The Avs went 0-8 on the powerplay, a dismal statistic, but Theodore did manage to make 25 saves on 27 shots.

Patrick Lalime, another Avs killer, stopped 21 of 22 shots.

Three Stars of the Game

1. Cody McLeod (An assist and a fight, McLeod needs to work on that Gordie Howe hat trick)
2. None
3. None
