Smyth to play against Devils, Three Stars Standings

Ryan Smyth, according to NHL.com, will be playing today against the New Jersey Devils. I'd expect either Jaroslav Hlinka or Wojtek Wolski to be a healthy scratch to make room for Smyth.

Tonight's Key Games

Nashville vs Detroit

The Predators sit just two points back of the Canucks for the eight and final playoff spot. After this game, they'll have just nine remaining to the Canucks' ten. We're getting close to "must win" time.

Vancouver vs Dallas

The Canucks can move into a three-way tie with the Flames and Wild with a win while the Stars are now three points back of the Sharks while already playing two more games. Since the Avs are chasing the division and it looks like Dallas won't be the second seed, we're rooting for Cancouver.

Minnesota vs Los Angeles

The Wild take on the last place Kings and will take over the division lead with a win and an Avalanche loss via tiebreaker. Both teams are 3-4-3 in their last ten but it will be a tough game for the Kings to win.

Three Stars of the Year

For almost every game (I think I skipped it for two of them), the "Three Stars of the Game" have been chosen by myself and here is the final update before the end of the season.

*First=3 Points
*Second=2 Points
*Third=1 Point
**No Longer With Team

Who I've Undervauled: Kurt Sauer may be the team's best defensman this year but he has only see the Three Stars twice. Similarly, Jeff Finger should probably be higher on the list, as should Scott Hannan.

Who Has Benefited Most by Hot Streaks: TJ Hensick has scored most of his goals in pairs, which has resulted in several first start selections for seemingly winning the game.

Most Likely Top 3: Jose Theodore and Paul Stastny will almost certainly maintain their top 2 positions over the last two games. With Marek Svatos's injury, Milan Hejduk, Andrew Brunette, and Ryan Smyth all have a chance to catch him.

Most Likely to Move Way Up: If they can stay healthy, Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote should be able to put together some great games. Joe Sakic is low on the list due to his injury but seems to be getting his legs back.

Game time is 3:00 EST. Go Avs!
