Game 1: Avs Comeback Fails; Theodore, Hannan, Wolski Hurt

It was like two seperate games were being played. One minute into the second period, the Red Wings were already up 4-1, Jose Theodore was pulled, and the Avs looked destined to be crushed.

Not completely true.

After the goaltending change, the Avs came back and actually made it a close game (4-3). John-Michael Liles had a golden chance at the end when he was all alone against Osgood but the shot went right into the pads.

Overall, it was a game of both positives and negatives. Sure, the Avs came back hard and refused to give up, but as we found out in Game 2, that may be because Detroit decided to take the foot off the gas.

Goals were scored by Stastny, McLeod, and Liles.

Quick Note

According to coaches, Jose Theodore was sent to the team hotel after he was pulled. Theodore missed the morning skate and apparently has the flu.

Peter Budaj stopped all twenty shots he faced in relief.

Three Stars of the Game

1. John-Michael Liles (Played a terrific game both offensively and defensively)
2. Ryan Smyth (Two points, probably the best skater in the game)
3. Paul Stastny (Goal and an assists for the sophomore phenom) - Best Sports Blogs, Sports Blogger Rankings
