Game 4: Avs Get Crushed, End Season

I waited awhile to make this post because it was tough to realize that hockey season was over. After 82 long regular season game and one terrific playoff series, the Avs were swept by their once-rival, the Detroit Red Wings.

In Game 4, the Wings crushed the Avs 8-2. Johan Franzen broke Gordie Howe's Detroit record for most goals in a series (9) and registered his second hat trick against Colorado. Liles and Arnason were the goal scorers for Colorado.

Why such a bad Game 4?

Take a look at the played who were not in the lineup:

Peter Forsberg
Paul Stastny
Ryan Smyth
Brett Clark
Marek Svatos
Wojtek Wolski

It was so bad, seven defensemen were dressed and Wyatt Smith was inserted into the lineup.

Three Stars of the Game

1. TJ Hensick (Played well with an even +/-)
2. Eh

Avs Lose Must-Win Game 3

I'm writing this blog in retrospect but there's not much to say. Goal scorers for the were McLeod and Brunette (twice). Theodore made 31 saves on 35 shots as the Red Wings carried a 4-2 lead into the third period. The Avs fought back, coming within one goal of Detroit's lead, but Chris Osgood came up huge for the Wings.

In Brief

Paul Stastny played just seven minutes. He suffered another injury and left the game early.

Peter Forsberg return for the first time in the series. He can be considered the "goat" for a Detroit goal in which he left his man wide open at the point in order to deliver a check.

Cody McLeod registered his first career playoff goal as TJ Hensick made his playoff debut and registered his first career playoff assists.

Three Stars of the Game

1. TJ Hensick (Tons of energy, put pucks on net, assist)
2. Andrew Brunette (Two goals, leading scorer in playoffs for Avs)
3. Joe Sakic (Two more assists for Super Joe.
