Hockey. Is. Back

The pre-season has never been this exciting for me, but the youth movement is in full force, and I CAN'T WAIT to see this third line of Jones-O'Reilly-Yip.

The biggest thing to keep an eye on over the next few days is how the fourth line is shaped. It seems to be a given that McLeod and Winnik have their places set. That leaves Kevin Porter and Ryan Stoa (and any other wildcard) battling it out for the final spot. These games could have a lot to do with it, and based on training camp reports, Stoa could have the upper hand.

Puck drop for the Avalanche-Blues will happen in about one minute from now. Check out this site for a radio broadcast of the game.

Good to be back!

NEWS!!!!! Avalanche Sign Stewart

It's been a long, long time since I've posted - and to be fair, there's been nothing to post about.

The cloud hanging over the Avs the entire offseason has been their inability to sign Peter Mueller and Chris Stewart.

They took a big step to showing fans the sunshine by announcing that they have signed Chris Stewart to a two-year six million dollar deal.

Whether you think the dollar amount is too high or that the years are too low, consider:

a) He led the team in goals last season (28) and only started to really play in December

b) Though not technically considered a rookie, last year was his first true season in the NHL

c) He has the potential to be one of the best power forwards in the game starting next season.

d) The Avs had to hit the cap floor eventually

In a perfect world scenario, Stewart will score 35-40 goals next year and immediately be locked up for the next 5-6 years. Hopefully that's the case.

Consider this the welcome back post to the blog. I've taken my talents to Cornell University, so I may be providing some college hockey commentary throughout the season.

We're a little under a month away from the regular season. I'm ready. Are you?
Go Avs.
